Golden enoki mushroom mycelium
Mycelium of Flammulina velutipes – mycelium for outdoor and indoor cultivation
The Flammulina velutipes, also known as enoki, is a highly valued mushroom for its fine, crunchy texture and long delicate stems. In controlled cultivation, it produces elegant and flavorful mushrooms, very popular in Asian and gourmet cuisine.
Its mycelium is ideal as seed for inoculating outdoor substrates (hardwood, stumps, chips) or for indoor cultivation in controlled conditions.
At Les 400 Pieds de Champignon, our flammulina blocks are designed for simple, stable, and productive cultivation.
Outdoor propagation (recommended method)
The mycelium of Flammulina velutipes can be used as seed to colonize hardwood logs and outdoor substrates. This method allows for a slow but sustainable installation with possible fruiting in cool conditions.
Use as outdoor seed
Recommended materials
- Logs or hardwood pellets (beech, maple, birch)
- Untreated wood chips
- Shady and cool area
- Enoki mycelium block
Steps
Prepare the location
Choose a cool, shady, and humid location, ideally with good temperature variations.
Prepare the substrate
Use fresh logs or well-hydrated hardwood chips.
Inoculation (seed)
Break the mycelium block into pieces and insert them between the logs or mix them with the chips to promote colonization.
Cover and protect
Lightly cover with mulch or chips to retain moisture and protect the mycelium.
5) Keep moist
Water as needed to maintain consistent humidity without saturating the substrate.
Results
The mycelium gradually colonizes the wood and can produce mushrooms when cool conditions are met.
Indoor cultivation in direct fruiting
Flammulina velutipes (Enoki)
- Difficulty: Beginner
- Thermal shock: 24 hours at 4 °C
- Fruiting temperature: 10 to 18 °C (optimal in cool conditions)
- Primordia formation: 5 to 10 days
- Time before harvest: 5 to 10 days
- Humidity: 90%
Fruiting guidelines
1) Block preparation
When the mycelium is ready to fruit, place the block in the refrigerator for 24 hours at 4 °C to stimulate mushroom formation.
Using a clean, sharp knife, cut an "X" about 15 cm on the side of the bag. Remove excess air by folding the bag behind the block.
2) Maintain humidity
Mist the exposed surface 2 to 3 times a day to maintain high humidity until primordia (small pins) appear.
3) Development and harvest
Mushrooms appear quickly and will be ready to harvest about 5 to 10 days after formation.
Maintain consistent humidity to achieve long, thin, and well-formed stems.
Important notes
- A block can produce 3 to 4 harvests.
- Always water the same incision after opening.
- Subsequent harvests are generally smaller than the first.
- Harvest by gently cutting the base of the clusters.
- Enoki prefers cool and stable conditions.
