      Lion's Mane mushroom steak

For a while, Hericium Erinaceus, Lion’s Mane, was mostly used for its health benefits as an extract or supplement.
In the past few years, it started to become more popular in gourmet cuisine and now it’s getting more and more available everywhere.
To celebrate the growing success of this mushroom, we would like to share with you one of our favourite recipes. It is not only excellent as a meat replacement for vegetarians and vegans but also worth a try as a food experience. You can find more information about this mushroom here.

      Lion’s mane steak.

      Ingredients for 2 portions:

      • 1 pound of lion’s mane mushroom
      • 2 tablespoons of Montréal steak seasoning (non-salted)
      • a generous pinch of salt
      • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
      • 6 ml soy sauce

First, slice the mushroom into thick slices (around 4 centimeters) as you would do with a regular steak.
Then, sprinkle them with non-salted Montréal steak seasoning and a pinch of salt.
You can also use salted steak seasoning, but then it's enough if you use much less of it.
You can cook the ‘steak’ on the barbeque or also in a pan.
Today we will use a pan to make the lion’s mane mushroom steaks.
Turn the heat on medium high, wait until the frying pan is hot, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan, then the mushroom slices. Pour the soy sauce over the mushroom steak slices then press them down into the pan by putting another pan over it to weigh it down.
Let them cook for about 4 minutes, then flip them.
After cooking the other side for 3 minutes, remove the weighing pan and the steak is ready to be served!
You can serve this steak simply with potatoes, a green salad, and pickles. To enhance your dish, you can also use our mushroom cream sauce on the lion's mane steak.
      Bon appétit!
